Under the Whispering DoorBatman’s sidekick, Robin, has been revealed as bisexual in the comic series, “Batman: Urban Legends”.  Actor, Tanner Buchanan, who played gay characters in “The Fosters” and “Major Crimes”, has said in a Variety interview that Robin is his favourite superhero and he would love to play the new version of him on the big screen in the future.

Sherlock” and “Doctor Strange” actor Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing a gay rancher in the Netflix western “The Power of the Dog”.  Kodi Smit-McPhee will play his lover and the film is due to be released in cinemas mid-November and begin streaming on Netflix on 1 Lord of Eternal Night coverDecember.  The actors talk about their roles in IndieWire here.

Wilson Cruz, who plays gay character Doctor Hugh Culber in “Star Trek: Discovery”, had a homophobic insult shouted at him at a Star Trek convention on 8 September and hundreds of Trek fans responded on Twitter in defence of gay characters and actors, saying that the meaning behind the Trek world is one of diversity and inclusion.

Darius coverDarius: The Paranormal Court Series by E. Broom – This is a revised and updated version of a previously released fantasy novel about a man trying to become king.  Helped by the man who loves him, Darius must face dangers, including a magical serial killer, to gain the throne.

Blooded by Nat Kennedy – A mage and a vampire, who is his former academy instructor, must work together to defeat a terrifying sorcerer.

After the Dragons coverMarvel has released an exciting  new trailer for its “Eternals” movie which includes Brian Tyree Henry as Marvel’s first openly gay superhero, inventor Phastos.  The film will be released in the US and UK on 5 November and stars Salma Hayek, Richard Madden and Angelina Jolie.  Phastos’s husband is played by actor Haaz Sleiman.

In 1979 Marvel nearly made a superhero/disco movie about the character Dazzler, who uses music to create energy beams.  It would have featured music by the Village People and starred Cher, but the project was scrapped and Marvel instead made “Howard the Duck“.  Read more about it here at Pink News.

The Bone Gate (Lesser Known Monsters 2) by Rory Michaelson – Oscar and his friends battle a creature that wants to destroy reality while trying to deal with relationships and jobs in this urban fantasy.

You Will Crave Me (The Odin Chronicles 5) by Nicholas Bella – This urban fantasy is listed as being for over 18s only as it features erotic and dark fantasy elements.  It features 2 dragon kings and the men – human and werewolf – who serve them.

Crossing Desires coverGlass Wolf (Fate’s Strays 1) by Cameron Craig – Fantasy about an over-protected omega who falls for a disgraced alpha mage.

Crossing Desires by Chris Bedell – After his royal parents are framed and executed, Darren seeks revenge against the new king and queen.  He starts dating their son to get evidence against them, but his feelings get in the way.

Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, has told Entertainment Weekly that gay superhero Wiccan – who appeared in “WandaVision” as a child – might appear in one of the upcoming Marvel series.   You can read the full article here.

Gay musician Olly Alexander responded on “The One Show” to the rumours about him being the latest incarnation of the Doctor in new “Doctor Who“: “I would love to – what an amazing role that would be – but it’s not happening I don’t think anytime soon.”  He has also said he would love to play a gay superhero.

Pixar Animation Studios is intending to include a trans teenager as a new character and are currently looking to cast the role.

M/M Fantasy Novels To Look Out For In 2020

Find new novels to look forward to with this list of some of the amazing m/m fantasy books due out in 2020.

Infinity Son (Infinity Cycle 1) by Adam Silvera – Due for release on 14 January 2020, this urban fantasy by a best-selling author sees two brothers getting involved with the Spell Walkers and a magical war.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune – Due out in March, this is the new urban fantasy novel by this popular author.  Linus Baker must protect the world from magical danger while Arthur Parnassus only wants to protect the children in his orphanage, bringing the two men into opposition with each other.

The Fascinators by Andrew Eliopulos – Due to be released in May in hardback, this Young Adult urban fantasy has three friends who possess magic facing first love and danger.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas – Due out in June, this novel has trans boy, Yadriel, summoning the wrong ghost and helping to solve the spirit’s death.

Fragile Remedy by Maria Ingrande Mora – Also due to be released in June – Genetically engineered Nate has been alone since he was young but he finally finds a home with misfit scavengers, including Reed.  What will happen when they learn the truth of who he is?
